Out of a total of 10.9 million job opportunities in December, about 6.3 million people were hired into new positions, leaving 4.6 million positions unfilled.
Due to continued child-care issues and virus-related health concerns, many workers, particularly women and caregivers have been unable to return to the workforce during the pandemic.

The United States had record-breaking turnover throughout 2021, with early warning signals appearing in April as immunization efforts improved, consumer spending increased, and businesses rushed to hire additional personnel to keep up with demand.
